S12-Systeem (Alcatel 1000 S12)

The S12 is a digital telephone exchange developed by ITT and later Alcatel, brought into service in the 1980s. Its defining feature is its fully distributed control architecture: instead of a single central processor, intelligence is spread across numerous modules communicating through an internal switching fabric (the Digital Switching Network). This design made it especially robust and scalable. In Belgium, the S12 was widely deployed by the RTT/Belgacom and manufactured locally by the Bell Telephone Manufacturing Company (BTMC) in Antwerp.
